Gray out of Singapore is generating a lot of buzz as of late for some strikingly designed products, many centered on the Apple ecosphere. Their latest product is aimed at one of the most popular wearables on the market today, Apple’s AirPods Pro. Arriving in aluminum and titanium flare, the Raptor line features the same sleek and elegant design found in their bevy of products, and it does it with panache.
The unboxing of the Raptor is glorious. A very stately elegant outer box is followed by a sleeved internal box, with once removed, houses the Raptor in a laser-cut foam liner. Underneath the foam liner, Gray has included a pretty self-explanatory instruction guide on installing the top portion on the top of the AirPods Pro wireless charging case, and then the bottom. Gray has included 3M double-sided tape, as is pretty standard on most AirPods’ protective cases, to keep the separated top and bottom from easily coming off in your pocket or purse. Installation was a breeze, just took a little scooting to get the LED on the Pro case to line up with the cutout on the aluminum logo on the front of the Raptor case. Once aligned, the charging indicator works perfectly and even illuminates the logo.
The Raptor, for the aluminum Stealth variant I received, is a mixture of silicone, TPU and aluminum finishes. Very elegant. Some may be disappointed the entire case isn’t aluminum or titanium, but it isn’t necessary as the case is rugged and elegant. Once aligned perfectly, the case opens and closes with ease, as if the case wasn’t on at all.
Gray makes striking products. Period. No, not everyone will rush out and buy a $149 case for a product that will probably get a MagSafe charging case next year, but it is a thing of beauty. Certainly the Raptor is talking fodder for your friends on Zoom, and it offers fantastic protection and stunning looks.
A must-have? No. But if you can afford it, definitely a beautiful addition to your Apple lineup.
